is Black Jack Johnson ever gonna go ahead and release a cd or something?
i really liked the idea of this project mainly with the legends that compose this regardless of the musical genre that consagrated each one of them (funk, hip hop or punk)
@JBuckingham21 i havent been searching for it for years but I remember seeing this performance I think it was on the HBO show Reverb when it first came on and its stuck with me since then. I love hook “BUT MY PEOPLE!” so powerful
Always loved that Good Times (“just looking out of the window… “) ending. Nice to know I’m not the only one that likes this song. Made a .mp3 out of the HBO video years back. Wish they’d do a studio version or perform it some more. Weak ass crowd applause probably didn’t help.
The Tournament used to be my favourite Mos Def track until I heard… GHETTO
“But my people
Who will rep my people
I said my people
Got to hold it for my people”
WOW ~ No. 1
can’t believe how old these videos are, yet it’s clear these guys were together at the wrong time..music would fit in great nowadays based on alot of the comments i’ve seen..wish they’d hook back up so I could check them out live
@ExcellenceUSAF Like in slavery and Soul Food having become a derivative of you come to appreciate any struggle in life so as to further understand how to push past what you are dealing with in the present, When you see black people in celebration of such things as a ghetto you come to realize the strength that comes along with it.
I have mixed feelings on this song, Where I’m from, ghetto mentality is never a good thing, but knowing Mos Def he isn’t glorifying insipid mess but the struggle and hard ship people live with every day.
Of course we can play rock. Rock n Roll came from black music (research the history of it). It basically came from blues and juke joint music. Many rock artists (especially British ones) acknowledge this, like the Rolling Stones and Bob Dylan. Just check this out wikipedia’s page on the history of rock n roll
Who said that black people can’t play rock?
Mos and company along with Living Colour? Well I think my meaning is clear on this one.
Love this group and thanks for posting this!
@sakecity7 …yeah that reverb HBO thing was cool.
