This trailer highlights why Casino Royale is my favorite Bond film AND my favorite casino film in so many ways. The story is purposely slow to give it depth. One of the things I hate about other Bond films is that they move so fast between locations that there's barely time to figure out what's going on, and it's really tiresome. The locations in this film were relatively few compared to films like GoldenEye and it was much easier to get to like the characters. The action in the casino is all very believeable, no "royal flush" for the win in films like Maverick.
Recently promoted to '00' status, Bond's first mission as 007 occurs in Uganda to capture a terrorist, Mollaka. The mission fails and Bond makes an explosive mess, however, he continues to track down the others of the terrorist group. The trail leads to the Bahamas where Bond meets Dimitrios and his girlfriend, Solange. Dimitrios is involved with the largest terrorist banker in the world, Le Chiffre. Business goes bad for Le Chiffre thanks to Bond and the banker plans to recover his losses in a high-stakes poker game at Le Casino Royale in Montenegro. "M" assigns Bond to play against Le Chiffre with the help of the gorgeous accountant Vesper Lynd. What ensues is one of the world's most dangerous Texas Hold'Em games full of intrigue, distrust, and betrayal.
Poker scene where Bond wins the Dimitrios's car. Dimitrios had good reason to stake a high bet since three kings is definitely one of the highest possible hands in Hold'Em, and Bond played it beautifully holding three aces to win the pot and the car. A lesson to poker players, that no matter how good your hand is, it's important to have limits and stick to them.
The Casino Royale is a beautiful place to lose millions of dollars! Bond believes he discovers Le Chiffre's "tell" of bluffing in this scene. This is one of the disadvantages of playing poker online - there's almost no way to interact with the other players.
